About State Teacher Certification Exams
Most states use one of a handful of exam systems to license new teachers. Florida runs the FTCE, Texas uses TExES, and many other states either build their own or rely on Praxis. The rules for each can be surprisingly different. Florida's General Knowledge test, for example, is broken into four subtests -- English Language Skills, Reading, Math, and an Essay -- and each one carries its own fee and its own retake clock. TExES is structured around content-area specialties (EC-6, 4-8, secondary subjects, special education, and so on), each with its own competencies and passing standard.
And then there's the Praxis -- still the most widely accepted certification series across the country. If you're planning to teach in multiple states or eventually relocate, Praxis is often the path of least resistance. We have a separate hub for those over in our Praxis practice questions section.
Our practice questions cover the format, the content domains, and the kinds of scenarios you'll see on test day. Work through them at your own pace, read the explanations carefully, and figure out where you're weak. That's where focused study time really pays off. If you want one-on-one help with the trickier concepts -- pedagogy, assessment design, content-area depth -- our tutors can step in.
