About Engineering Certification Exams

The path to becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) starts with the FE Exam - and it's not a quick Saturday morning thing. We're talking 110 questions, 5 hours 20 minutes, and a reference handbook that you need to actually know how to use under pressure. The good news? NCEES provides the handbook during the exam. The bad news? Having access to formulas doesn't help much if you've never practiced applying them.

The FE Exam comes in 8 discipline versions: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Computer, Chemical, Environmental, Industrial, Other Disciplines, and a couple more. Most engineering graduates take the version that matches their degree. The Civil FE is the most common by volume - and it covers a lot of ground: statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, transportation, geotechnical, construction, and more.

Pass rates vary by discipline and by how well-prepared candidates are. The scoring is pass/fail, based on a scaled score. You don't need a perfect score - but you need solid fundamentals across the board, not just your favorite topics. Our practice questions target the core areas where engineers tend to drop points: engineering economics, probability and statistics, and the occasional ethics question that trips people up because they didn't study it. Work through the questions, read the explanations, and use the results to guide where you spend your study time.
