The HiSET Mathematics subtest covers a pretty wide range of topics. You'll see questions on numbers and operations, measurement and geometry, data analysis and probability, and algebraic concepts. Roughly half the questions focus on algebra and number sense, while the rest split between geometry and data interpretation.

How many math questions are on the HiSET?

There are 55 multiple-choice questions on the HiSET Math subtest, and you get 90 minutes to finish them all. That works out to roughly a minute and a half per question - so pacing yourself is really important. Don't spend too long on any single problem.

Can I use a calculator on the HiSET math test?

Yes, you're allowed to use a calculator on the HiSET Mathematics subtest - but only the one provided at the testing center. It's typically a basic four-function or scientific calculator. You can't bring your own, and graphing calculators aren't permitted. Still, some questions are designed to be solved without one, so brush up on mental math too.

What score do I need to pass HiSET math?

Good news here - the HiSET provides a formula sheet during the test, so you don't need to memorize everything. It includes formulas for area, perimeter, volume, and the Pythagorean theorem. That said, you should be comfortable using those formulas quickly, and you'll want to have basics like order of operations and fraction rules down cold since those aren't on the sheet.
