Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Digital SAT structured?

The Digital SAT has two sections: Reading and Writing, followed by Math. Reading and Writing has 54 questions in 64 minutes, while Math has 44 questions in 70 minutes. Each section is split into two modules, with a 10-minute break between the sections.

Is the SAT adaptive?

Yes. The SAT uses multistage adaptive testing: your performance in the first module of a section helps determine the difficulty of its second module. You should still answer every question you can, since there is no penalty for guessing.

Can I use a calculator on the Digital SAT?

Yes, you may use a calculator throughout the Math section. The Bluebook testing app includes the Desmos graphing calculator, and students may also bring an approved handheld calculator. Practice with the same tools you expect to use on test day.

What score do I need to pass the SAT?

There is no universal passing SAT score. Scores range from 400 to 1600, and colleges set their own policies and score ranges. Build a college list around each institution's current admissions guidance rather than chasing one magic number.

How much does the SAT cost?

The U.S. SAT registration fee is $68 for the current fee period, though additional services can cost extra. Eligible students can receive fee waivers. International registrants pay an additional regional fee, so check College Board's current schedule before registering.

What should I expect from SAT Reading and Writing questions?

Reading and Writing uses short passages or passage pairs with one question each. Questions cover information and ideas, craft and structure, expression of ideas, and standard English conventions. That format rewards careful reading - not just endurance.

Are all SAT Math questions multiple choice?

Most Math questions are multiple choice, but some require you to enter your own answer. The section covers algebra, advanced math, problem-solving and data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry. Be comfortable moving between equations, graphs, tables, and word problems.
